Bob Huddleson's Howling Helmets

The call of the wild: Show your wild side and cover your noggin
The call of the wild: Show your wild side and cover your noggin

Bob Huddleson's Howling Helmets were on display at the 2008 Street Vibrations event in Reno. Howling Helmets, in case you haven't seen them, are a unique blend of protective headgear and taxidermic artistry.

I can't imagine anything more attention-getting than a motorcycle helmet adorned with animal fur and real horns. Just the thing for a ride to your local PETA rally!

Bob tells me that his helmets adorn celebrities such as Steven Tyler of Aerosmith, and Dale Earnhardt, Jr. -- and he has the photos to prove it, although I couldn't get him to show me a photo of Earnhardt wearing a Howling Helmet during an official NASCAR event.

We didn't have a lot of time to spend with Bob (his booth had numerous visitors in the few minutes we spent talking to him) but during our brief conversation Bob seemed like an easygoing and helpful guy.

Strike fear into the hearts of fellow riders: Wear one of these and rule the road. Who would mess with someone wearing this on their head?

I'm not sure about the legality of these helmets, so I'd expect that wearing one would subject you to increased scrutiny from your friendly neighborhood law enforcement officials.

If you are looking for truly unique headgear, Howling Helmets are worth a look.

The Sunday Morning Ride

Early Sunday morning. Sun rising over the hill. Birds flitting about, chirping.

You approach the garage. The air is crisp and clear. No wind. It’s quiet out, not many people up right now – the usual buzz of human activity is conspicuously absent.
