Buddy Stubbs Arizona Harley-DavidsonBuddy Stubbs Arizona Harley-Davidson

Buddy Stubbs opened his dealership in 1966 after he retired from a motorcycle racing and stunt career - Buddy did stunt work in the the 1973 Movie Electa Glide in Blue.

This is the dealership's third location and the new facility is almost 48,000 square feet, including a motorcycle museum covering more than 3,000 square feet. There are over 30 motorcycle manufacturers represented and over 100 motorcycles on display. Buddy guides museum tours at 6pm on Fridays and the last Saturday of the month at 12:30pm.

Tasty collector motorcycles

Here are some of the collector motorcycles on display at the Buddy Stubbs museum.

1967 XLH Sportster

This 1967 XLH Sportster is in unrestored condition. The white seat and bags date this bike but I still like it. I'm sure some of us knew someone who had one just like this.

Electra Glide In Blue

This 1968 Electra Glide in Hi-Fi Blue was originally sold by Buddy and owned by the original owner. This bike was used as a prop at the end of the 1973 Movie Electa Glide in Blue starring Robert Blake.

This Evil Knievel Sportster is a great looking motorcycle. The paint and detail on this bike is excellent.

One of the rarest Harley-Davidsons?

Rare 1972 Harley-Davidson ShortsterRare 1972 Harley-Davidson Shortster

I've never seen one of these 1972 Shortsters with a 65cc engine -- they were only produced in 1972. This example looks brand new.

In the Showroom

There is a large selection of new models in a wide variety of colors on display in the showroom.

V-Rod Destroyer

This 2006 Screamin Eagle V-Rod Destroyer VRXSE looks awesome. Now where did I put my checkbook and my life insurance policy?

I like the V-Rod

That V-Rod looks like it'd be a fun little toy.

Gosh!

Gee, that 1967 Sporster sure is keen! Elvis had one of those, didn't he?

The only thing missing is white tassels on the handlebar grip ends.

1972 Harley Davidson 65cc Shortster

Submitted by MECHANICASE on July 18, 2008 - 8:00pm.

When I was 12 years old my dad purchased me my first bike, a Harley Davidson Shortster at Sweeds Harley Davidson in Hutchinson, KS. It was a terrific bike. Mine would easily do 55mph.

I road it back and forth to my first job every afternoon after school. Sweed and his wife were the nicest people id ever met. When we went to pick up the bike he gave me a HD motorcycle helmet free. Later in life I sold the bike and purchased a SL125 Honda, then a CB360t, then a CB550, then a 750 night hawk, then a Honda Valkyrie, and now own a Honda GL1800. Of all the bikes, I have the fondest memories of the HD Shortster. Still have several pictures of the bike. Would give anything to have that bike back.

Also a few years after we bought the bike, Sweed and his wife were killed on his Harley on their annual summer bike vacation across the USA. I heard they were going up a large incline early one morning, cold and a little icy, and at the top of the peak they met a car passing another car and were struck head on. I sure miss the Harley but most of all I miss Sweed and his wife @ Sweeds Harley Davidson in Hutchinson, KS. Would give anything to have "them back" god bless their souls!!!!!!!!
